Squidoo Tip #39: Use the YouTube Module Wisely
When you add a YouTube module to your lens, I recommend displaying one big video instead of a bunch of smaller videos. There are a few reasons for this:
- It’s easier to see. There aren’t a bunch of little videos fighting for attention.
- It’s less of a traffic leak. With a full-sized video, people can stay on your lens to watch it.
- Forces you to handpick the best videos.

I totally agree.
I also often uncheck all the descriptions of the video, since they sometimes mess up the lens layout and aren’t relevant to my lens.
If necessary I would prefer to add my own description.
Another good tip.

Hi Poddys - Yup, there is that as well. Sometimes the descriptions just don’t add anything except noise.

I like all of your points and did not know about the difference in number 2. I did find the larger picture of the video grainy and less attractive — maybe that isn’t always the case or maybe you just decided that the other issues were more important? I’ll check out your lens on adding YouTube videos. Thanks.

Brenda - It’s mostly a case of other issues being more important. I haven’t been impressed with the video quality of YouTube’s stuff in general. The thing is, when you display tiny videos on your lens, people still have to click over to YouTube to watch them… where they end up seeing the enlarged, grainy versions anyway.
A single large video is more attractive than a bunch of little videos in the sense that it’s less confusing, less cluttered. It also means the video is more likely to get attention.
There are times when you’d want to display a bunch of small videos, but I only tend to do that if I’m featuring a huge series on one lens. An example would be my Trial by Fire Video Showcase.
